Darbhanga, 16 April 2024 (Agency). The campaign has intensified as soon as the candidates from both the alliances were announced in the three Lok Sabha seats of Mithila, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Jhanjharpur.

In these areas, the candidates have started touring from city to village, but currently only local supporters are with them. No star campaigners from any party have arrived yet. Therefore, there has not been much heat in the election atmosphere. However, the campaign has definitely intensified.

BJP, the main component of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has expressed confidence in its outgoing MPs Gopal Ji Thakur and Ashok Yadav from Darbhanga and Madhubani, while JDU has also re-fielded its MP Ram Preet Mandal from Jhanjharpur.

Darbhanga and Madhubani seats have gone to RJD quota on behalf of India Alliance. The party has given ticket to its MLA from Darbhanga Lalit Yadav and former MP from Madhubani Ashraf Ali Fatmi. In the year 2019, RJD has fielded its old party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui from Darbhanga.

On Jhanjharpur seat, VIP has fielded former Legislative Councilor Suman Mahaseth. Former MLA Gulab Yadav was the RJD candidate in the 2019 elections from this seat, who is likely to contest as an independent this time.

On the other hand, there is internal discord within the parties regarding the selection of candidates. Many local party officials, on the condition of anonymity, said that the leadership should be careful in the selection of candidates.

Jhanjharpur remains the hottest seat among these three seats, where 10,62,391 votes were cast in the last election. JDU's Rampreet Mandal had won. Earlier in the year 2014, BJP's Brajendra Kumar Choudhary had won. This time, former RJD leader Gulab Yadav will file independent nomination from Jhanjharpur parliamentary constituency on April 18. Due to which the contest on this seat is likely to be interesting.L.S.
